PPS hosting registration sessions

Portsmouth Public Schools hosting annual Preschool and Kindergarten Registration events

Families with rising preschoolers and kindergartners can attend one of a series upcoming registration events held by Portsmouth Public Schools (PPS) to help streamline the process and provide answers to questions about the division’s programs.

From Tuesday, May 7 through Thursday, May 23, families can go to the Emily Spong Preschool Center, located at 2200 Piedmont Ave., each Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday from 9 a.m. to noon and then 1-3 on Tuesdays and Thursdays or 1-4:45 p.m on Wednesdays. There will also be a final, dedicated preschool registration event Saturday, June 1, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
In order to register, students must be 4-years-old on or before Sept. 30 for preschool or 5-years-old on or before Sept.30 for kindergarten.

Additionally, families must bring with them specific documentation in order to complete the registration process:
State or military birth certificate
Valid picture ID for parent/guardian
Immunization records
Physical examination within the last year or appointment card dated by Aug. 30, 2019
Court-ordered custody documentation (if applicable)
Proof of residency (if families own/lease their home, they will need to bring an electric bill from within the past 30 days as well as either the deed, mortgage statement or lease/rental agreement with name, address and telephone number of owner/lessee. If families do not own or lease their home, families will need to bring a notarized letter from the homeowner, stating the parent/guardian and child live in the home, a copy of the electric bill from within the past 30 days as well as either the deed, mortgage statement or lease/rental agreement with name, address and telephone number of owner/lessee).

Families who are attending for preschool registration should be reminded that the PPS preschool program is funded by a state grant and admission to the program is based on eligibility criteria. As such, families need to also bring with them proof of the household income: their tax return for 2018 and verification of any supplemental income (WIC, SSI, SNAP and TANF).

Families who complete the preschool application will be notified in July if their child is accepted to the preschool program.
